How do I Qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship?


Florida Bright Futures is a scholarship program funded by the state of Florida that provides financial assistance to eligible Florida students who attend eligible postsecondary institutions in Florida.


You must meet certain academic and other requirements to qualify for the scholarship program. These include:


1. High School GPA: Medallion Scholars will need a high school GPA of 3.0. For the Academic Scholars award, you will need a minimum weighted high school GPA of 3.5.


2. Test Scores: For 2023-2024 college applicants, You must meet the minimum test score requirements for the SAT or ACT. You will need a 29 ACT or a 1340 SAT for the Academic Scholars award. You will need a 25 ACT or a 1210 SAT for the Medallion Scholars.


3. Community Service or work experience: You must complete a minimum number of community service hours. New this year, students may also submit employment hours to meet this requirement.


4. Coursework: You must complete a minimum number of high school credits in certain subjects.


5. Residency: You must be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.


The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program provides three different types of awards, each with its own set of award amounts based on the level of the award and the academic institution attended.


The three types of awards are:

1. Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)

2. Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)

3. Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV)


For the 2021-2022 academic year, the award amounts for each type of scholarship are as follows:


1. Florida Academic Scholars (FAS):

- Full tuition and applicable fees at a public institution

- $215.55 per credit hour at a participating private institution


2. Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS):

- 75% of tuition and applicable fees at a public institution

- $161.66 per credit hour at a participating private institution


3. Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV):

- Full tuition and applicable fees at a public institution for a maximum of 72 credit hours

- $215.55 per credit hour at a participating private institution
